I will keep it short. I was born in 1969 in Coronado, CA while my dad fought in the war. I grew up in Green Bay, WI--Go Packers! I went to UW-Stout, where I earned a B.S. in Early Childhood Education with a K-3 Elementary Licence. In 1993, I moved to Columbus, OH--Go Crew! Go Buckeyes!--and taught for Columbus Public Schools and went to The Ohio State University. In 2000, I moved to Minnesota--Go Packers!--where I currently reside and teach for Eden Prairie Schools. In 2006, I earned a Masters of Education in Instructional Systems and Technology from the University of Minnesota. Last year, I was a Technology Specialist, NUA Intern, QComp Coach and Observer, and an Instructional Technology Coach. This year, I am a kindergarten teacher and NUA Intern.
I believe that it is our responsibility to ensure that all students achieve at the highest levels possible and that educators need to constantly examine their practice to adapt to our ever changing learners and world. I believe that technology can help us do this.
I believe that education should be fun, exciting, and engaging. Technology can help us do this too. So can running around, blowing bubbles, building with blocks, and playing dress-up--so let's not forget them or let them be cut in favor of teaching to the test or the pushing down of curriculum.
I believe that we need to focus on the child and remember that our students are just that, children. Children who need to learn how think critically, be digitally literate, and lifelong learners--and have fun doing it.
What the best and wisest parent wants for his (her) own child, that must the community want, for all its children.
