NUA Interactive PFM

a design, for good instruction, use it well

The Pedagogical Flow Map (PFM) is an instructional design from the National Urban Alliance. It is a scaffold for teachers to use to fully develop effective units of instruction. It is based on current brain and learning research (Feuerstein, Nagy, Caine and Caine, Erikson, Pearson, Jensen, and Vygotsky).

Each of the steps in the PFM plays a critical role in an effective instructional unit. In some units, each can clearly be identified as a separate step; in others various steps may be combined. Although some steps come before others, the order of the steps is not fixed. Steps may be ordered and adjusted in a number of ways, depending on the instructional goals and purposes.

The PFM helps the instructor focus on:

I have created an interactive PFM. As you roll over each step it will provide you with information on what that step is about and how it might be used in your instructional design. In addition, each section has a central question or questions to help you focus on the main idea of each step.
