NUA Strategies
try it out, new instructional tools, in your classroom
The instructional strategies that are at the heart of the NUA are:
- Research-based
- Cognitive research on how people learn
- Literacy research
- Draw on the understanding that children bring different skills and strengths to the learning experience.
- Based on the approach that there is no single strategy or approach that is universally effective for all grade levels, subject areas, classroom, etc.
- In addition, a strategy may or may not be useful or effective for every teacher or student.
- There is no definitive list of strategies. Though there are eight core NUA strategies:

- Keyword Notes
- Taxonomy
- List, Group, Label
- MetaCognition
- Sentence Stretchers
- Dancing Definitions
- Read, Talk, Write
- Strategies are used as vehicles for encouraging teachers to think about instruction in more effective ways.
