One Session at a Time

So...I have discovered that Written Exposure Therapy is incredibly difficult. It asks you to revisit painful memories that you have spent years trying to avoid. While I know that processing trauma is an important part of recovery, it doesn't make the process any easier.

So far, I have completed two writing sessions. They brought up so much anxiety and suicidal ideation that I needed additional support. I ended up spending two days at EmPATH at Fairview Hospital. I was in crisis, and I needed a safe place to stabilize. The staff there did an excellent job of helping me reset, calm down, and get back on my feet.

On Tuesday, I will begin writing again. I don't know exactly how it will go, but I do know that recovery often means continuing forward even when the path is difficult. I'll take it one session at a time.

More later...
